UK Bingo Halls vs. US Bingo Halls

Bingo is a popular game in many countries. Not only do the residents of the United Kingdom play the game but their English speaking cousins in America do as well. Although the citizens of these countries may share the same love of the game, there are major differences in how it is played.

Location

In the United States, bingo halls as they exist in the UK are not found. Rather in American bingo is played predominantly in church basements, Senior Citizen centers or Veteran’s halls. OF course, some casinos so offer the game. However, casinos are rather limited in locations in the US. In the UK, bingo halls exist solely for bingo. Like the US, the game can be found in casinos. However, finding casinos throughout the realm is much easier in the UK.

The Game

The bingo variation played in the US is mainly 75 ball bingo while in the UK 90 ball bingo is the most preferred variation. This doesn’t mean that one cannot find the other version in either place. However, it may be rare and difficult to locate.

Refreshments

It seems that the refreshments offered in UK Bingo halls are generally more extensive than those of the American bingo sites. Alcohol is frequently served with appetizers. Most American bingo places serve basic refreshments if they do at all.

The Merits of Bingo Strategy

Published on June 18, 2012 by in Tips

Many people have made a living trying to sell various systems and information claiming to help bingo players improve their odds of winning. While the prospect of these systems working is appealing, they simply will not work. Some touted bingo strategies are ineffective but some can increase your odds based on simply probability.

Bingo Card Choice

Some players believe in certain strategies to selecting bingo cards. While this in theory sound plausible, they really are not. The entire game of bingo is at the mercy of either what ball will be pulled from the hopper or generated by the random number generator at an online casino. Therefore, getting a random card can be just as lucky as selecting one based on certain criteria.

Playing More Cards

This is one strategy that will in fact increase your odds of winning. The more cards you play, the better your odds. That is just simple probability. Playing multiple cards is a good idea when the number of players in the game is relatively low. This will increase your odds better than playing multiple cards when there is a large jackpot at stake and many are in the game.

Bingo’s Refer a Friend Bonus

If you play online bingo, then you have more than likely taken advantage of some sort of bonus. If you have not yet done so, then the time to do so it now. One type of bonus offered is known as a Refer a Friend Bonus.

As the name hints, this bonus is given when you refer one of your friends to the bingo site. Simply referring them is not enough. They must also sign up with the site and play a certain number of games. Bingo sites like rewarding their loyal customers and offering refer a friend bonuses are one way that they do this.

Generally, the bonus will be given not only to the referring friend but the friend who signs up for the site. Also, as a new member, the friend will be eligible for other bonuses as well. By referring a friend, you make it possible for you to play bingo with many of your friends.

Do You Speak Bingo?

Published on May 20, 2012 by in Tips

Any game comes with its own lexicon. Understanding this language is key to being able to successfully participate in the sport. This is true for the game of bingo.

Blackout: No, this doesn’t refer to the lights going out. Blackout is a commonly used term meaning that all of the spaces on a bingo card need to be covered in order to win. Sometimes, this is also known as coverall.

Four Corners: This term also makes reference to a bingo pattern. Specifically, this is a pattern in 75 ball bingo where you must cover the numbers in each corner of the card.

Hard way Bingo: This term is not what you might think. It actually makes reference to needing to obtain a bingo in a straight line without the benefit of using the free space.

On-You would refer to yourself as being “on” when one or more of your cards needs one more number in order to be a winning card.

Postage Stamp- No, you won’t be sending anything through the post with this bingo term. Actually postage stamp refers to matching four numbers in a 2 x 2 grid to form a postage stamp. These would be found in any of the four corners of the bingo card.

Six Pack-This term isn’t referring to a set of abs or a pack of ale, actually this is a bingo term. This means in you need to get six numbers in a block on your card in order to win.

Nine Pack- This is the same as six pack but it requires nine numbers not six.

Lucky 7 Bingo

Published on May 9, 2012 by in Bingo Variations, Tips

Bingo comes in numerous varieties which provide players with a wide range of choice. One particular variety is a game known as Lucky 7 Bingo. You might wonder why the game is lucky seven. Why not lucky four or lucky either? Actually the number seven has long been associated with good fortune and luck.

When playing Lucky 7 Bingo there are two forms or patterns used in the game. One of these would be creating the shape of a number 7 on the card. This means all five spaces at the top of a 75 ball bingo card would be covered. Then the remaining four spaces as you go down diagonally are covered. This would use a total of 9 spaces including the free space.

Another version of Lucky 7 Bingo is a write-in form. Players are provided with a piece of paper that has seven empty boxes. In these boxes, they must write seven unique numbers. They can be any combination of numbers between 1 and 75. The caller then begins calling out numbers. The first player to have all seven boxes covered wins!

Bingo Balls

Published on May 3, 2012 by in Tips, Uncategorized

The game of bingo has not always used bingo balls. Actually in the beginning, number counters were used instead. These were essentially wooden disks with numbers imprinted on them. They were pulled from either a bag or a box. The number was then called out by the bingo caller.

Eventually these wooden disks evolved into wooden balls. While there isn’t a clear reason why this change occurred there is some speculation. It possible could have been done simply out of the need to make the game more efficient. The balls could be placed in a hopper and spun with one rolling out. Some also wonder if the change occurred to make choosing a number more arbitrary.

Today, modern bingo balls are made of plastic and look much like ping pong balls. American bingo halls play with 75 balls in their bingo hopper while European bingo halls played with 90 balls. Most bingo balls are white with black numbers. However, this can vary and the balls can be made in a multitude of colours.
