Bingo comes in numerous varieties which provide players with a wide range of choice. One particular variety is a game known as Lucky 7 Bingo. You might wonder why the game is lucky seven. Why not lucky four or lucky either? Actually the number seven has long been associated with good fortune and luck.

When playing Lucky 7 Bingo there are two forms or patterns used in the game. One of these would be creating the shape of a number 7 on the card. This means all five spaces at the top of a 75 ball bingo card would be covered. Then the remaining four spaces as you go down diagonally are covered. This would use a total of 9 spaces including the free space.

Another version of Lucky 7 Bingo is a write-in form. Players are provided with a piece of paper that has seven empty boxes. In these boxes, they must write seven unique numbers. They can be any combination of numbers between 1 and 75. The caller then begins calling out numbers. The first player to have all seven boxes covered wins!

The game of bingo has not always used bingo balls. Actually in the beginning, number counters were used instead. These were essentially wooden disks with numbers imprinted on them. They were pulled from either a bag or a box. The number was then called out by the bingo caller.

Eventually these wooden disks evolved into wooden balls. While there isn’t a clear reason why this change occurred there is some speculation. It possible could have been done simply out of the need to make the game more efficient. The balls could be placed in a hopper and spun with one rolling out. Some also wonder if the change occurred to make choosing a number more arbitrary.

Today, modern bingo balls are made of plastic and look much like ping pong balls. American bingo halls play with 75 balls in their bingo hopper while European bingo halls played with 90 balls. Most bingo balls are white with black numbers. However, this can vary and the balls can be made in a multitude of colours.

Hamburgers and Bingo go together like, well, nothing we can think of, but the American’s seem to think it’s a fantastic idea! Bingo has been one of America’s favourite pastimes for many years and if American’s know how to do anything, they know how to make an amazing burger – so why not put Hamburgers and Bingo together?

You’ll find some of the world’s biggest burgers in the US, where one bite is likely to fill you right up! America has adopted the hamburger and made it synonymous with the American way of life; it’s pretty much as important as the Statue of Liberty.
At Hamburger Mary’s in Orlando, a new trend has kicked off a partnership between great big burgers and bingo. They also throw in some drag queens for good measure! Every Tuesday night, Ham-Bingo takes place. It’s a charity event hosted by Miss Sammy and Carol Lee, two of the most prestigious cross dressing divas in the area!

At the event, you can sample one of the huge range of burgers on the menu, most of which have wacky names like ‘Buffy the Hamburger Slayer’ and ‘The Big Kahuna Burger’, you can also have a drink from Mary’s Muscle Mug. After that you’ve ordered your food, the game of bingo commences in the traditional manner except you should expect a lot of banter from your two hostesses who add heaps of comedy to the game!

Here at UK bingo news, we’d love to see Burger-Bingo on our own fair shores! After all, combining a great meal, comedy and a little bit of drag with our favourite game of bingo sounds like something that would appeal to many a Brit!

Somebody has bought a winning bingo ticket and stands to collect a third share in the total prize money of $6 million. The trouble is the person has not come forwards and nobody knows who it is! The ticket was purchased in Guam.

Guam is a tiny island in the Western Pacific and is a member of the Marina Islands. Although the indigenous population is less than 180,000 the island is a popular tourist resort, having many large hotels, a Las Vegas style strip and numerous golf courses. Due to its location and easy access from Japan, the vast majority of tourists are Japanese. Over one million tourists visit the island every year, so locating the winner is not proving easy.

Compared with the economy of Guam even a third share in the prize money of $6 million is a great deal of money. Apart from revenues from tourism and a number of small local businesses, the only income is from the United States which contributes to the island economy from its overseas federal funds. The island cannot considered to be poor, and it boasts a University, a public school system and a modern hospital, but the island has suffered from increasing economic pressures dating back to around 1995 and the infrastructure is struggling to maintain reasonable standards.

It is known where the winning ticket was purchased, the time of purchase and the price paid (which was $7.80). The last four digits of the elusive ticket are 1649. The organisation searching for the ticket holder is the Guam National Olympic Committee or GNOC.

It is not surprising that the Guam authorities are as keen as the GNOC to locate the winner. Prize winnings are taxed in Guam at a rate of 20%, and the winner must also pay income tax. As a result the Guam Department of Revenue & Taxation is looking forward to receiving a payment of $700,000. . The winner stands to enjoy $1,300,000 – a prize surely worth stepping up for!

A number of recent events have brought into question how seriously some people are taking the game of bingo, and how far they will go to protest their rights. Over the last few weeks incidents have occurred around the world, some of which have breeched security, and caused police to be called out!

A woman has had to be escorted out of a bingo hall by police after she staged a sit in protest, in complaint that the bingo caller had ignored her shouts after she had won a full card. The woman was playing bingo in a hall near Manchester, and supposedly should have won over one thousand pounds. The large amount of money came from a combination of her winning a full house, and completing the card in fewer than forty two numbers. However, the bingo caller did not hear her shouting that she had a full house, and when the next number was called another player won the prize, the pensioner then decided to stage a protest, and would not leave the hall until police forcibly removed her.

Another incident, this time in Australia, saw bingo protestors attempt to take over a television station. A number of people hijacked an early morning programme on Channel Seven, over claims that the company had held back prize money that had been won in an interactive bingo competition. What makes this story even more bizarre is that the protestors were part of the crew of another programme, and that the disturbance was filmed for this programme.

It seems odd that people are going to these lengths for the sake of bingo, but here at UK Bingo News, we’re dedicated to the cause too so we have a good understanding of how important bingo is to many people across the world. We know that sometimes, protesting for your right to bingo might be a little far-fetched but being bingo-deprived can sometimes lead to desperate measures!

Trends come and go with most popular leisure time activities. Bingo is no exception. Without a doubt, there are many trends that are associated with the bingo industry.

What pastime wouldn’t be complete without its own line of fashion? Yes, you guess it, bingo players can purchases article of clothing and accessories to express their love for the game. Bingo shirts are extremely popular. T-shirts can be found with simple slogans such as “I Love Bingo”, “Happiness is Yelling Bingo!” or countless other unique and creative expressions. Players can also create their own shirts to express just what they want about the game of bingo.

Accessories are also available for the bingo enthusiast. A wide range of bingo earrings can be purchased. These earrings can dangle anything from a bingo card replica to bingo balls. Some even wear bingo balls with their lucky number written on them. Wouldn’t that be fun to deck yourself out for your next trip to the bingo hall?

Seat cushions are another accessory owned by some bingo players. The seats found in bingo halls are usually quite uncomfortable especially if you’re sitting them in for any length of time. Often these chairs are simple folding chairs without any sort of padding on the seat. These seat cushions toted to the bingo halls aren’t your ordinary seat cushions. In keeping with their favourites sport, these players purchase seat cushions emblazoned with a variety of bingo patterns. These patterns might include pound signs, bingo cards, and bingo balls.

Unique daubers are yet another accessory that the bingo enthusiast might want to purchase. Some players prefer something more than the standard round ink stamp to mark their cards. Players can have different daubers, which are available in a rainbow of colours and sizes. These daubers can come in unusual shapes such as animals, seasonal shapes and lucky symbols. Eccentric bingo players can even purchase daubers with lights that flash when they are used to daub the bingo card. Some daubers are constructed with two markers in order to make marking bingo cards more efficient. This would be beneficial for bingo players that enjoy playing multiple cards.

The game of bingo has been played across the globe for centuries and for many it is a profitable means of gambling. Many lucky jackpot winners have had their lives changed beyond recognition after scooping large amounts of cash which has granted them financial security for life.

The lives of many people in need have also been changed beyond recognition as a result of bingo. Charity bingo games which are played regularly all over the world are one of the most popular means of raising money for good causes. As a result of the many charity bingo games that have been played, millions upon millions of pounds have been raised for people who really need the cash.

A charity bingo game functions in a similar way to a normal bingo game, with participants paying for their bingo tickets. Occasionally there will be an entrance fee which also contributes to the total amount raised for charity. Instead of winning money, players stand the chance to win prizes, usually donated by local businesses or people within the community. Therefore, the anticipation you feel when you’re just one number away from a line or full house is not in vain as you’ll stand to win some form of prize. The money collected from admission and ticket sales benefits a charity of the organisers’ choice.

One couple who are pro’s at running charity bingo nights are Phyllis and Jim Martin, a retired couple who live in Staffordshire. The couple, who have been married for 46 years and are aged 67 and 70 respectively, have been running charity bingo nights since 1964! As a result of their hard efforts, they have raised over £130,000 for various charities in the region where they live.

In an interview with thesentinel.co.uk Phyllis and Jim explained that they started running bingo nights after attending one in Cambridge in 1964. Since then, they’ve held charity bingo nights at Baddeley Green Working Men’s Club four times a year. On March 25th this year, they’ll be holding another night to raise money for the Breast Cancer unit at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

History was well and truly made last week when Barack Obama was inaugurated as President of the United States of America. The world watched on in awe and anticipated changes to come. By his side were his family and friends and one lady who counted herself very lucky to be there; his stepmother Kezia.

Kezia, perhaps surprisingly lives in a bungalow in Bracknell, Berkshire! Yes, she’s a resident of the UK and a massive bingo fan! After the inauguration ceremony, Kezia flew back to the UK and hit the Woking Bingo Hall! The hall played host to a game of bingo that is taking place in Gala bingo halls across the country: ‘Mrs Obama’s Bingo’. The game, which has been figure headed by Kezia, has been a huge success in raising money for the Sue Ryder Care Charity.

‘Mrs Obama’s Bingo’ has run in gala bingo halls across the country to coincide with the inauguration of President Obama and has successfully raised over £20,000 for the charity which supports people living with serious illnesses. Kezia has proved to be a fantastic figure head for the game as an avoid bingo player with a very famous step-son.

Grandmother of 10, Kezia, told bingo players at the Woking hall all about her experience at the inauguration ceremony, she said:
‘It was a fantastic occasion, I was so proud. I felt like a million dollar woman – like a star’. She also told bingo players that President Obama had welcomed her to stay with the family at the White House during the summer. Now that’s an offer we’d never turn down!

Bingo is a tame sport; people rarely get injured as a result of extreme dabbing or shouting ‘house’ too loudly! It’s a game that can be enjoyed by all ages and all countries, but it recently hasn’t been going down too well in Turkey.

A group of six British holidaymakers were arrested in Turkey after playing a game of bingo which was raising medical funds for a Brit who had recently been diagnosed with cancer. The game, which involved around 60 people in a bar in Turkey, started out as a fun way to raise funds and resulted in 15 people being taken to a police station for questioning and 9 of those being arrested on gambling charges.

Over in Turkey, bingo is seen as a form of unregulated gambling and is not allowed to be played in a public place without a licence. When police got wind of the fact that a game of bingo was being played, they went undercover to raid the bar in Altinkum.

The British tourists originally thought the raid was a joke, believing that it was an addition to the night’s entertainment and were shocked to know that the game is illegal over there. A raid like this is apparently not uncommon.

Bingo ladies – are you getting married soon? Or are you planning a hen night for one of your bezzies? Well listen up, we’ve found an American craze that has made its way over to good old Blighty and we reckon you’ll love it!

Bridal Bingo has been a firm tradition in American hen nights or ‘bridal showers’ as they’re known, for over fifty years! The game is, for many people, the most important part of the event and also the most fun! Bridal Bingo allows everyone to get in on the anticipation of the upcoming nuptials and is also a great giggle for the girls!

The game is a simple variation on a traditional bingo game. Each person has a bridal bingo card that is the conventional 5×5 square. Instead of numbers, though, these cards have a variety of words associated to marriage on them. For example you could choose words like ‘commitment’ and ‘cherish’, or if you’re feeling a little saucier: ‘something blue’ and ‘garter’! If you’re playing 90 ball bingo, you’ll need to pick 90 different words or phrases and put them in a bag to be drawn during the game. From then on, the game functions just like a normal bingo game, with the words called out by the hostess and each person matching up these words to their bingo cards! The first to get a line wins! It’s as simple as that!

In America there are loads of Bridal Bingo sets available to purchase but many people like to make their own and customise them with photos of the bride, groom and guests. Maybe you could make your own version of Bridal Bingo where the face of each guest is printed on the bingo card and as their name is called, you can mark them off! This is a great way to familiarise yourself with the names and faces of the guests who will be attending the wedding and maintains bingo as the sociable game it always has been!
